Larry Carello hails from the town of Sylvan Beach in central New York state. After graduation from the United States Naval Academy, he embarked on a four-decade adventure in aviation, and has flown a wide variety of military and commercial aircraft. He spent five years attached to a San Diego based H-46 helicopter squadron, during which he made two shipboard deployments to the Western Pacific.

His first book, A Golden Weekend, received first runner-up honors from the Military Writers Society of America in the category of Best Literary Novel for 2012. He followed that work with Rotorboys - a fast-paced novel of men, ships, and helicopters at sea.

Larry retired from commercial aviation in 2016 as an international captain for a major U.S. airline. He lives with his wife in Michigan, and now lectures on aviation history and conducts book signings at independent bookstores nationwide.
